WHAT IS BELMONT WILD CO.?

Belmont Wild Co. was created by us - Carrie and her two daughters Sara and Brooke, and we have been creating art together for twenty-five plus years. Partly because we wanted an excuse to spend more time together, and partly to share our love of art with the world, BWCo. was born in late 2021. Named after a love for our small hometown of Belmont in Nova Scotia (Mi'Kma'Ki), our collections typically consist of stoneware vessels like mugs, vases, and jars along with earrings and ornaments. We pour our hearts into every piece, all meticulously hand-made and hand-painted, and there is no greater joy for us than sharing our work with you.

SO, HOW DO WE MAKE THIS STUFF?

Our collections often begin with an idea inspired by the changing seasons and wildlife in our backyards. When a creative idea springs up, we test out the new design at one of our home studios, then our favourites are put into production. Each idea starts off as a ball of clay that we throw on the wheel or sculpt. It’s then left to dry as greenware and once leather-hard, a design is often painted with underglaze and carved into the piece. This is also when we add sculpted adornment like little animals or mushrooms. Our creations then get fired in our kiln where they take a sturdier form called bisque. We glaze all of our bisque pieces by hand (often together while enjoying each other’s company), where they go back in the kiln and come out in our favourite part of the process – seeing the final product!
